Home Theatre Sound System
Surround sound systems come in two main layouts: 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set ups. These refer to the speakers to subwoofer ratio and the way in which the speakers are aligned throughout the room. For example, a 5.1 home sound system would consist of a left speaker, a centre speaker and a right speaker at the front of the room and two speakers at the back of the room. A 7.1 surround sound system would be in a similar format to the 5.1 system but includes 4 speakers at the rear instead of two.
5.1 is great for most small to medium setups as long as the speakers are in the right position. With a small room, you would likely experience little to no difference by adding the extra 2 speakers at the rear.
You will find there are many other emulated formats on the market, including 9.2, 11.2, Dolby Pro Logic IIz and DTS height. These formats are not necessarily consistent with the intended sound design and will change how the movie sounds. Most movies are recorded in 5.1 surround sound, so changing to these other formats will alter the intended audio experience.
McCormick Concepts has extensive experience in design, supply and installation of surround sound systems. We can custom design and install layouts to enhance the audio quality of any room. Surround sound systems don’t need to be installed into a dedicated home theatre sound system room to get a good result. These home sound systems can enhance the listening experience in almost any environment including living, family and outdoor areas. In fact, we can integrate your home theatre sound system into a multi-room audio system or Smart Home system.
